April 19, 2017

When it comes to having plants in your kitchen it is important to choose the right plants for you and your kitchen, some require more attention than others and some provide different uses, this blog will help you choose the perfect type of plant to add a touch of green to your kitchen.

Succulents are an extremely popular interior accessory at the moment. This may be because arranging a mixture of different succulents will produce the most beautiful array of muted greens and purples, and with very little maintenance needed they can be enjoyed by even the most notorious of houseplant serial killers.

Not only do they look great they are also really easy to maintain in your kitchen, since plants that grow best in moisture are well suited for the kitchen. Tropical plants with shiny leaves are resistant to evaporation, meaning they will thrive in the kitchen regardless of changing temperatures and moisture levels.

If you have a busy life and don’t have much time for maintenance cacti are a great choice. Similar to tropical plants they can withstand the changing temperatures of a kitchen well and don't require much attention or watering.

Whether they are freshly cut or potted, flowers require a bit more TLC than some other plants, however with this being said they bring a vast amount of colour to your kitchen and can really brighten up the a room. If you think that you need a bit more colour in your kitchen then flowers are an effective option, however if you don't have a great track record of caring for houseplants then maybe something a little more hardy is a better choice for you!

All the rage at the moment and usually filled with succulents, terrariums are fast becoming the must have accessory for any modern home. We think they look great in kitchens and are available in many shapes, sizes and colours.

Herbs and chillies are more of a practical choice especially if you are a keen cook. By growing these you are benefiting your cooking as it means you always have fresh ingredients near you at all points for whenever you need them (and fresh always tastes best!). Growing plants which can be used in cooking can be a great project for kids, especially when you can see your tiny plant grow and produce flowers and fruit like chillies and peppers. It's a great way to learn about growing plants and can make trying new foods exciting too!
